Two Weeks Post-Op

Just two weeks after her surgery to correct craniosynostosis, McKenna is showing all the signs of a wonderful, speedy recovery. She has even managed to push through 3 new teeth during the recovery process. She's got probably close to 100 stitches, which are starting to loosen up. She is also back to sleeping mostly through the night!

One Week Post-Op

Here is Miss McKenna one week after surgery. Her incision, which gets cleaned and gooped up with Bacitracin every 5 hrs is looking pretty good. Her swelling has gone down a bunch and her attitude is spunky. Our main goal now is to stair-step her off the heavy pain meds she's been taking without her hurting too much. Micah continues to be a lively and curious big brother. He's been really good about her "ow, ow."

McKenna's Surgery

Everything is progressing well. We have maybe one more night at OHSU then they'll let us go home. I thought I'd put a picture of before and after so you can see a bit of the change. We are cleaning the incision every 5 hrs and giving meds every 4 hrs. She is awake more and wanting to play with things... like the tubes even though her eyes are swollen shut and she can't see a thing. The Dr. said it could take 3 weeks for the swelling to really go down (I didn't put a current picture with the swelling on here yet). She also said the corrections to the skull will take a year to two years to round out and fuse together and become the final shape. It is incredible that this procedure can be done and has such dramatic results. We are blessed.

Summer Time

We have been enjoying summer! We stayed up here for 4th of July this year. Micah sadly didn't make it up to see the fireworks on account of another ear infection. That is the only thing that could slow him down! McKenna is well and yesterday we were at OHSU for her CT scan. After a bit of trouble with getting an IV in her chubby feet we had success and everything went well. She sure did like the 'happy juice.' She was laughing at the nurses and waving 'hi.' Today we have all our pre-op appointments and some psyc tests for Kenna (which will be performed again after surgery to check her growth). One week till surgery.
