Grandpa Allen

My grandpa Allen Agnew passed away on September 12th, 2012.  He was a charming old codger. He devoured literature and read daily.  When he ran across an article that he thought might be of interest to his children or grandchildren, he would mail it to us with a hand scribbled yellow note attached telling us to “enjoy!”  I loved getting these articles from grandpa.  He got satisfaction from keeping the birds in the yard well-fed.  He loved nature, be it visiting the beach with grandma or walking Woodpecker Loop trail with the grandkids.  He whistled as he walked the trail in his Velcro sneakers, flannel shirt and floppy brimmed hat. He always kept a small bowl of dry roasted peanuts next to his recliner for snacking and in his 70’s and 80’s he’d kick his leg up to waist height while sitting so he could “gain some momentum” to get up out of the chair (though I think this was more for entertainment of those around).  In fact, I think a lot of the silly little things my grandpa said, sang or did were for the entertainment of others.  In his elder years he proudly wore his support socks and knee wraps and he acted as if these were the latest fashion.  He attended church, was loyal to old friends and seemed to listen more than talk.  Most of all he adored my grandma.  She was the love of his life and he had a way of saying “yes, Francie” to all her requests that would made me chuckle.  He volunteered both at the hospital and at the library.  He gave his time, talent and treasure to help benefit others.  My grandpa taught by example.  He was selfless and supportive to his children.  Of all things, music maybe brought the most joy to his life especially when his wife, children or grandchildren were supplying the music. He now joins grandma to sing with the angels in heaven.  I will miss him dearly!

Kenna's Big Girl Bed

With Kenna on the verge of bouncing out of her crib, we decided it was time to go for the big girl twin bed.  We got the bed from my parents - I slept in it as a kid.  Kenna helped with the sanding and painting.  We set it all up and she was giggly excited.
